On November 7, 2012, Governor Cuomo announced that there will be extensions of time for renewals of liquor licenses and permits in New York as well as payments. Many businesses were impacted by Hurricane Sandy and need as much assistance as possible to rebuild and reopen their stores with minimal interruption.
Those areas affected include New York City and the counties of Westchester, Rockland, Nassau and Suffolk. Those licensees who are due for renewal in October or November, will receive a 60 day extension from their expiration date. They can continue to operate normally.
Furthermore, any licensee can receive a free license replacement if damaged or lost because of Sandy; New Year’s Eve Permits are now due December 1, 2012 instead of November 16, 2012 for the all night permit; Anyone operating with a temporary permit can ask to extend it for an additional 30 days; If anyone received a special event permit and the event was canceled due to Sandy, a full refund will be issued; If requested, new permits will be issued at no additional cost if the event is moved to a new location; If an applicant received a deficiency letter during the week of the storm, the time to respond is now 40 days and not 20; Conditional approvals and alteration approvals issued during the week of the storm will be extended an additional 60 days; Civil penalties due during October 26, 2012 to November 30, 2012 will be given an additional 30 days from the original due date; Retailers will have an additional 15 days to pay distributors.
